Return to Rugby Activities

We are all excited to return to full rugby practice tomorrow. We will have some unusual procedures in place, which will change, so please everyone be a little patient.
We are putting these in place so that we are compliant with Midwest’s guidelines on returning to competition. If we are found to be not in compliance, we will not be able to play competition rugby this coming season, which could happen as early as August.

  • First if all, everyone must complete the World Rugby COVID 19 – Return to Play Awareness course. You will have one week to complete. After that week if a certificate is not handed in before practice you will not be able to participate. This includes players, coaches and admins.

  • When you enter the parking lot of DRG, please DO NOT cross the small bridge to the pitches until your temp has been taken and some symptom questions are asked by a compliance officer. This includes anyone that is coming to watch also. We do need some people to help with this, so if you can please let me know.
  • Fitzy has come up with practice plans that are in line with State and World Rugby guidelines. That will include contact, in case anyone is wondering.
  • When not on the field in a practice scenario, please adhere to social distancing guidelines on 6 feet.
  • No sharing of water bottles.
  • All used equipment will have to be sanitized after every practice.
  • As always please listen to coaches and EC members during this. We are just trying to make sure that we can play competitive rugby this fall. So if someone calls you out on something, it’s not a personal attack we just want to play rugby. Also we could be checked in on at any time, so we need to maintain compliance.

These will change, and we will keep you up to date on any changes, so please keep an eye on your inbox.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please direct them directly to me.

Force Wins MS State Championship

Match Report by Matt Tracey

The State Championship Trophy for MS Tackle Rugby resides in Montgomery County.

Saturday, the Dayton Northern Force Middle School team traveled to the Hall of Fame Youth Football Fields in Canton Ohio to participate in the Ohio State Tackle Championship.  The Force had an undefeated regular season at 8-0 and are comprised of nine local middle schoolers (6 Northmont 8th graders, 2 Northmont 7th graders, and one Vandalia Butler 7th grader).

They had two pool play games to dictate if they made it to the State Cup Championship Bracket and seeding.
They had to play Dover first, the #1 seed out of Canton and established since 2012, and won 36-14
They then played Cincinnati Rebels, the #1 seed out of Cincy and a 2nd year team, and won 17-7.
After pool play they finished with 9 points which ranked #2 out of 9 teams and had to face #3 Columbus Crusaders, the #1 team out of Columbus.
They beat Columbus (a fourth year program they had beat 21-19 during the regular season) 34-10 in a run away.
In the finals they were pitted against well established Cleveland Highlands (#1 seed from Cleveland that had won their two pool play matches 67-0 and 40-5)  It wasn’t even a contest.  The Force came out aggressive on defense and were up 15-0 at half and won the State Championship 20-5.
The best part of this incredible journey was this was a first year tackle program.  Many of these boys played flag rugby for 1-2 years but they had never tackled.
These boys shocked RugbyOhio for sure.
